The History of the Roundup
The Roundup started in April of 1989. It was started by a handful of AA’s that had a second home at Edisto. Those folks wanted to start a convention such as some of the bigger ones with big name speakers but for less cost. Since Edisto is non-commercial and had no hotels and people could rent houses and share the cost of the weekend and save a lot of money. And at the same time be able to enjoy the top speakers from all parts of the country. The biggest problem then and now was the location to have the convention. The first roundup was held up on Edisto in the Gym of the Presbyterian Church. Sunday meetings became a problem. The following year we moved to our present location, The Lion’s Club. The seating has always been limited but we never have to turn down people because be have perfected an outside speaker system. Through the years different things have been tried, some successful, some not, but the one thing that you can count on at the Edisto Beach Roundup is great speakers, great fellowship, and a God presence like none other.
